6th Grade Science Camp at New Life Ranch – April 2015

Each year, Oklahoma Christian School takes a group of students from the middle school to New Life Ranch in Colcord, Oklahoma.  This particular group of 6th graders began their adventure for 3 days on April 15, 2015. Staff members from the school, parents and 6th graders united in their endeavor to grow socially, spiritually and academically with a sleeping bag, suitcase, snacks in tow and an excited attitude of exploring the unknown camp.

I was blessed enough to also be able to go on this journey and take pictures to showcase our wonderful experience.  It was an incredible 3 days; however it did rain/sprinkle off and on when we there, but that didn’t stop anyone from growing, learning and having a fantastic experience.

Each year the 6th, 7th and 8th grade embark on a trip to grow on many levels.  Science camp is designed to teach the children how to survive on their own through personal experiences.   The staff at New Life Ranch uses each year to build upon the camper’s knowledge from what that they learned from the previous year. Examples include how to start a fire in different conditions, and how to find food in the wild and what is safe to consume. Learning to bait a hook and cast a fishing line into the beautiful river that is nestled along the camp to catch fish.  Seeing how to build a simple shelter using the land and a few things they may have readily available to them.  In addition, learning to be mindful of the surrounding areas with dangers such as snakes and poison ivy–and the list goes on!!!

The best part that captivated my own heart was with my own observation of watching the kids grow socially and spiritually.  I saw kids experience things they never imagined possible such as holding a fish for the first time.  I was able to witness many kids learn about God and see His creation around them.  God is a God of order, He has a purpose and is very structured including each one of us in His perfect plan.  Each child and adult walked away knowing that God does not create chaos and that He created order.    He loves each and every one of us and it is displayed through His creation!

Romans 1:20 is the verse that resonated in my heart when creating this video!

For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—His eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse.”  Romans 1:20
